Curriculum

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Meringandan State School is implementing the Australian Curriculum in English, Mathematics, Science, History and Social Scien​​c​es, Technologies, Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Languages  (Years 5 and 6). Children in Year 4 are also taught Languages, but are not assessed. ​

Within all subject areas there is a focus on developing seven general capabilities of students. The seven General Capabilities are

  • Critical and Creative Thinking.
    • Digital Literacy.
    • Ethical Understanding.
    • Intercultural Understanding.
    • Literacy.
    • Numeracy.
    • Personal and Social capability.

There are also the cross-curriculum priorities of

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures
  • Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia, and
  • Sustainability

The Meringandan State School teachers do a newsletter article each term, which includes an outline of the curriculum that children are working on. Further information is readily available on the Australian Curriculum website or by speaking with your child's teacher.
